A Love Story in the Making: The History and Rebuild of Our Homestead

At Braeside Estate, we're proud to offer a unique blend of history and modern luxury, and it’s all thanks to the beautiful homestead that’s at the heart of our venue. Built in 1897 by former Brisbane Mayor Thomas Stevens, this charming "workers cottage" has witnessed more than a century of stories, and now it’s ready to play its part in your love story.

A Historic Beginning

The homestead’s history is deeply rooted in the Gold Coast’s early development. When Thomas Stevens purchased the land in 1873, he had a vision for a home that would stand the test of time. In 1897, he brought that vision to life with a quaint workers' cottage, naming it “Braeside” in honor of his Scottish heritage. Over the years, the homestead has quietly stood as a reminder of the region’s humble beginnings, holding onto its original charm and character.

Restoring a Classic

While the homestead was still in good condition when Sammi, the current owner of Braeside Estate, took over, it wasn’t quite in keeping with the rest of the venue. Empty rooms were under-utilised, and the home’s style didn’t fully complement the modern and sophisticated aesthetic of the estate. As someone with a background in design, Sammi saw this as the perfect opportunity to honour the building’s history while giving it a fresh, modern update that would blend seamlessly with the rest of the venue.

The result is a perfect mix of modern cottage charm with beautiful brass features, elegant chandeliers and moulded ceilings. Imported marble and a bridal gown reveal room add a touch of luxury, while the original claw-foot bathtub, lovingly refurbished, serves as another nod to the homestead’s past.

A Dream Bridal Suite

The vision for the homestead is simple: to create a serene, beautiful space for the bride to begin their wedding day. This homestead is now the bridal suite where couples can relax and prepare before their big day, offering the perfect backdrop for getting ready photos, hair and makeup, and quiet moments before the ceremony begins.

Whilst you won’t be able to sleep in the homestead, as it is not an accommodation space, access is granted from 7am on the morning of your wedding. This allows plenty of time for you and your family to relax, enjoy the surroundings and prepare for the magic ahead.

Whether you’re unveiling your gown in the bridal reveal room or taking in the intricate details of the space, the homestead offers a truly unforgettable start to your wedding day. It’s a place where history and love come together - just as your story will unfold.

If you’d love to start your wedding day in our beautifully restored homestead, we’d love to have you. For availability and bookings, email us at events@braesideestate.com.au - we can’t wait to be part of your special day!
